The Weight of a Blessing up at Clarkesworld
Tags: blog, fiction, free fiction, clarkesworld, the weight of a blessing, vietnam March 1st, 2013Just a note that my angry short story “The Weight of a Blessing” is now up at Clarkesworld. This was a really tough story to write, for much the same reasons as “Scattered Along the River of Heaven”, though this one took months to get right…
Have a look and tell me what you think?

A lovely story indeed. Your talent as a writer is wonderful and you create such strong and evocative imagery.
A question around the visiting of The Dead – if contamination was a known issue why were visits still permitted or did this story take place before tactile contact virus transmission was known?

@Lou: aw thank you! It’s a known issue, but the authorities rely on people having a bit of common sense and self-preservation sense when they visit; a bit like it’s a known issue that poking at an angry bulldog or doberman will result in unpleasant consequences, but people still own them… 99% of people don’t go around deliberately lowering their filters, it’s a bit like visiting someone in a clean zone and taking off your hazmat suit…
