Brief tech update
Tags: blog, geekiness, plugins, wordpress July 15th, 2010Urk. The spam comments have grown so numerous (hundreds in a few days) that I can no longer check them individually. Hope this doesn’t affect legit commenters here. (and I guess I ought to feel flattered at the attention).
The LJ crossposting is misbehaving a little–it sometimes turns itself off for no particular reason. Some fiddling will inevitably happen…
Also running into a few issues with scheduled posts, which might end up in double posts until I work out the system.
But, overall, the brand new WordPress seems spiffy (and I like the new colour scheme for the CMS backend. Much easier on the eyes).
Does anyone know if there are tools for managing tags and categories? Specifically, I wanted to merge several tags into one automatically, and/or migrate tags to categories. Any ways to do this which don’t involve massive amounts of love labour?

I use ‘Merge Tags’ plugin to merge tags, it should work fine.

Jeremy put an Akismet spam filter on my Word Press blog and it blocks pretty much everything. You might want to check it out.

Ove: oooh, thanks so much! I didn’t know this existed.

Askimet was installed by default on my WordPress (though I had no idea wordpress picked up so much spam…). I was referring to what it was picking up (I came back from a 5-day break and it was, er, full of hundreds of spam comments, which is a world record). I’m always worried that it will tag stuff as spam mistakenly, so I used to check individual comments, but with 300+ of them, there’s no way I’m doing this…
